Big Ones to Start Off With - First off I must begin this review that this is a good collection to start off with if you do not yet own any previous Aerosmith albums. Admittedly there are other good songs that Aerosmith made that were recorded after this album (such as don t want to miss a thing). However as an earlier review posted stated this is a good place to start if you would like to hear some of their 80 s and early 90 s stuff at a budget price. Some of the songs that I really liked on this cd are love in an elevator (9 out of 10),rag doll (10 out of 10),Janie s Got a Gun (8 out of 10), Crazy (9 out of 10), and Living on the Edge (10 out of 10). There are various good songs on this cd but for me the songs I just listed are some of the reasons why I still have this cd after first buying this cd when I was stationed in Japan (and the last time I was in Japan was October 2003). There are other collections that now carry a wide variety of the classic Aerosmith hits but this is one of the cd s to get if you are ok with collecting more than one greatest hits collection. In my opinion this cd would be a good primer.
Big Fun - Like the title suggests some of Aerosmith s biggest known revival hits are on this release. I think what should be on any compilation is subjective, but I think the point of this release was to gather a lot of hits in one place. And that they did.Big Ones is still a good release, and Big Fun to listen to.
Forget the negative reviews... - Forget the negative reviews. This is a great collection of Aerosmith hits, post the Sweet Emotion era. Buy it and replace the ones you don t like with Sweet Emotions or Walk this Way or whatever.
MTV Aerosmith - Three stars for Aerosmith here. 1994 s Big Ones is a decent compilation focusing strictly on their MTV-era hits, 1987-1994, a nice, seven-year period. With songs like Dude (Looks Like A Lady), Janie s Got A Gun, and Love In An Elevator on this compilation, you can t go wrong if you want strictly Aerosmith s big ones, as in, big ones from 1987-1994. But, in my humble opinion, the real highlight on Big Ones is the track from the soundtrack of Beavis & Butthead Do America, the hair metal-esque Deuces Are Wild. That song is probably my favorite from Aerosmith s 1987-1994 Geffen Records period.Still, the reason for the three stars is because this disc seems somewhat unnecessary in 2008. Back in 1994, it probably was a good idea, and it s sold plenty of copies, and believe me, I am NOT criticizing it. But, what I m saying is, as opposed to this, which offers strictly Geffen years tracks, why not include something from the Columbia/Epic years? Sort of like Devil s Got A New Disguise or perhaps the two disc O Yeah! ? But, this probably is a good idea, because I m sure there are plenty of Aerosmith fans who are strictly Geffen-era Aerosmith fans who can t stand their Columbia material. Overall, buy this if you already own Gems or Aerosmith s Greatest Hits and you want a decent follow up to the record. Otherwise, unless you are a devotee of Aerosmith s Geffen years, this can be skipped.The material is great, but many of the songs here already appear on Devil s Got A New Disguise and O Yeah!: Ultimate Aerosmith Hits. If you haven t bought this already, I strongly suggest you buy those two compilations instead.Recommended only for the Geffen-era Aerosmith fan or the Aerosmith collector/die-hard fan.
